Thanks to its exceptional properties, titanium is widely used in aerospace, medical, chemical, and new energy industries. But did you know that behind every high-performance titanium plate or precision titanium rod lies a complex and rigorous manufacturing process? Today, we'll take you on a journey through the "journey of titanium"!
I. Preparation of Raw Materials:
Titanium sponge: Extracted from ilmenite and produced through processes such as chlorination and reduction.
Smelting into ingots: Smelted using a vacuum arc remelting (VAR) furnace or a plasma arc furnace (PAM) to ensure purity and microstructural uniformity.
II. Primary Processing: Forging and Rolling
Open-die forging:Heat the titanium ingot and forge it into a billet to increase density and refine the grain structure.
Die forging: uses dies to shape complex parts, thereby improving dimensional accuracy and consistency.
Hot-rolling: at high temperatures improves the microstructure and increases the strength of plates, strips, and bars.
Further rolling: at room temperature improves surface quality and dimensional accuracy.
III. Heat Treatment Processes
Annealing: Eliminates internal stresses and improves ductility and toughness.
Age Hardening: Enhances the strength and hardness of titanium alloys (suitable for Gr5, etc.)
IV. Precision Machining and Forming:
Turning, milling, and drilling: Used for the finishing of bars and forgings;
Laser cutting and waterjet cutting: Suitable for high-precision cutting of titanium plates and tubes;
Welding: Utilizing TIG welding, laser welding, and other methods to ensure joint quality;
Surface treatment: Pickling, sandblasting, and anodizing to enhance corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal.
V. Testing and Quality Control
Chemical Composition Analysis: Ensuring compliance with standards such as ASTM, and GOST
Mechanical Property Testing: Tensile, hardness, impact, etc.
Non-Destructive Testing: Ultrasonic, X-ray, and penetrant testing to detect internal defects
Dimensional and Visual Inspection: Ensuring product dimensional accuracy and surface quality
VI. Packaging and Shipping:
Custom wooden crates, pallets, and vacuum packaging to ensure safe transport.
We provide export documentation such as Material Test Certificates (MTC), test reports, and Certificates of Origin.
