What Is A Titanium Tube Used For?

Apr 18, 2026

Titanium tubes are primarily used in seven key sectors: chemical engineering, power generation (including nuclear power), marine engineering, aerospace, medical applications, oil and gas, and sports and leisure. Their core advantages include exceptional corrosion resistance, high specific strength, lightweight properties, biocompatibility, and resistance to both high and low temperatures.

I. Chemical Industry (Largest Application Sector, Accounting for Approximately 45%–52%)

Primarily uses Gr1/Gr2 pure titanium tubes and Gr7/Gr16 (titanium-palladium alloys), which are resistant to corrosion by acids, alkalis, chloride ions, and hydrogen sulfide

Heat Exchangers / Condensers / Evaporators: Chlor-alkali, soda ash, fertilizers, pesticides, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals; transport of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, caustic soda, brine, and organic media; resolves corrosion issues that stainless steel and copper cannot address

Process Piping / Reactor Linings: Transport of highly corrosive media, electrolytic cell piping, ion-exchange membrane caustic soda plants, hydrometallurgy, electroplating, and environmental exhaust gas / wastewater treatment

Special Applications: Resistant to crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion; suitable for high-temperature, high-pressure, and chloride-ion-containing environments

II. Power Generation and Nuclear Power (Core High-End Applications)

Thermal Power / Coastal Power Plant Condensers: Thin-walled welded pure titanium tubes (TA2, wall thickness 0.3–0.5 mm) that withstand high-speed seawater erosion and chloride ion corrosion, replacing copper-nickel alloys; service life of 30+ years, maintenance-free, and high heat transfer efficiency

Nuclear Power: Secondary/tertiary loop cooling tubes, evaporators, condensers, steam generators, and spent fuel processing equipment. Made from nuclear-grade pure titanium, Ti-6Al-4V, and Ti-5Al-2.5Sn, these components resist radiation, high temperatures, and water corrosion, ensuring safety.

New Energy: Hydrogen production electrolysers, fuel cell bipolar plates, wind turbine towers/hydraulic piping, and solar thermal collector tubes.

III. Marine Engineering and Desalination

Desalination: Heat exchange tubes and seawater transport pipes for multi-stage flash, reverse osmosis, and low-temperature multi-effect systems; pure titanium Gr2 is resistant to seawater and chloride ions, ensuring long-term stability and no contamination of freshwater

Marine / Offshore Engineering: Seawater cooling systems, ballast water pipelines, fire protection pipes, hydraulic lines, deep-sea platform risers, subsea equipment, and seawater aquaculture equipment; resistant to marine atmospheres, splash, and seawater immersion corrosion

Deep-sea Oil & Gas: Titanium alloy continuous tubes (Gr5/Gr9), capable of reaching depths of up to 12,000 meters; resistant to H₂S, CO₂, and high salinity; reduces weight by 40%+ and extends service life by 10 times

IV. Aerospace and Defense (High Strength and Lightweight)

Primarily uses seamless tubes made of titanium alloys such as Gr5Ti-6Al-4V, Gr9, and Ti-3Al-2.5V

Aviation: Aircraft engine fuel lines, lubrication lines, hydraulic lines, air ducts, landing gear lines, and airframe structural tubes; Civil/Military Aircraft: Weight reduction, improved thrust-to-weight ratio, high-temperature and low-temperature resistance (-253°C to 600°C)

Space: Rocket/missile fuel transfer lines, oxidizer lines, satellite structural components, manned spacecraft piping, liquid hydrogen/liquid oxygen cryogenic lines

Defense: Nuclear submarine piping, torpedoes, hydrofoil vessels, missile launchers, armor components, deep-sea equipment

V. Medical and Biomedical Applications (Biocompatibility)

Made from Gr2 and Gr5 ELI (low-gap) seamless titanium tubes; non-toxic, non-magnetic, biocompatible with human tissue, and resistant to corrosion by bodily fluids

Orthopedic Implants: Spinal rods, intramedullary nails, bone plates, joint prostheses, bone traction pins, orthopedic instrument shafts

Interventional Devices: Vascular stents, catheters, endoscopic sheaths, dental implant abutments, surgical instrument handles/shafts

Medical Equipment: Ultrasound transducers, operating table components, tubing for sterilization equipment
