- Corrosion resistance: It exhibits extremely high stability in neutral and alkaline media (such as seawater and caustic soda solution); it has good resistance to organic acids (such as acetic acid and citric acid); however, it is easily corroded in strong oxidizing acids (such as concentrated nitric acid).
- Electrical and thermal conductivity: Its electrical conductivity is approximately 22% that of copper, but it maintains stable performance within a temperature range of -200℃ to 600℃; its thermal conductivity is moderate, making it suitable for applications requiring balanced heat conduction.
- Mechanical properties: Annealed pure nickel bars have a tensile strength of approximately 345 MPa and an elongation of ≥40%; after cold drawing, the tensile strength can be increased to over 550 MPa, while the toughness decreases slightly.
- Magnetic properties: It exhibits ferromagnetism below 340℃ (Curie temperature), but loses its magnetism above this temperature, making it suitable for manufacturing magnetic devices.
- Biocompatibility: Pure nickel has low irritation to human tissues and can be used in basic components of medical devices.
Production process flow of pure nickel rods
The production of pure nickel rods requires multiple rigorous processes to ensure dimensional accuracy and performance stability. A typical process is as follows:
- Raw Material Preparation: High-purity nickel ingots or nickel alloy ingots are selected, and surface oxide scale and impurities are removed to ensure raw material purity.
- Heating and Forging: The raw material is heated to 1000℃~1200℃ and forged into a coarse bar shape using a forging press to refine the grain and eliminate internal defects.
- Rolling/Drawing: The forged bar is rolled to the target diameter using a rolling mill, or cold-drawn using a cold-drawing die to improve dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
- Heat Treatment: Annealing and solution treatment are performed as needed to eliminate processing stress and adjust mechanical properties (e.g., annealing improves toughness, and solution treatment improves high-temperature strength).
- Finishing: Processes such as turning, grinding, and polishing further improve surface finish and dimensional tolerances to meet the requirements of precision applications.
