Compared to most alloys, nickel exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in dry fluorine. Nickel has also been successfully used in dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 540°C. It can also be used in static hydrofluoric acid solutions. N201 offers excellent mechanical properties and superior corrosion resistance, high thermal and electrical conductivity, low gas content, and low vapor pressure. Nickel maintains good mechanical properties over a relatively wide temperature range and is easily cold-worked, with processing characteristics similar to those of mild steel. Typical applications include plate heat exchangers, bellows compensators, expansion joints, alkali production, and chemical equipment.
