Products introduction
TI6AL4V Titanium alloy Pan head bolts are fasteners manufactured from titanium or titanium alloys, featuring a rounded, pan-shaped head. The head is dome-shaped with a flat underside, and the drive slots are typically cross-recessed (H- or Z-shaped), slotted, or six-lobed, designed for use with standard screwdrivers or specialized tools.
The key advantage of the pan-head design lies in its large contact area, which evenly distributes clamping force across the surface of the joined components, effectively preventing localized indentation or loosening. This characteristic makes them particularly suitable for applications involving composite materials, thin-plate structures, and precision instruments-such as composite structures like helicopter cockpit floors. The wide-head design also reduces the need for countersinking, further lowering the airframe's weight.
In terms of dimensions, thread diameters range from M1.6 to M10, with nominal lengths varying from 3 mm for micro screws to 60 mm for standard fasteners. Head height can be as low as approximately 2 mm, significantly saving installation space. Taking an M4×10 screw as an example, the titanium alloy version weighs only about 0.77 g, which is approximately 40% lighter than a comparable stainless steel fastener.
Major Material Grades and Their Characteristics
The performance of titanium alloy pan-head bolts depends on the selected material. Currently, the mainstream material systems can be divided into three major categories:
1) Industrial-grade pure titanium (Gr1/Gr2):
Represented by GR2, it has a tensile strength of approximately 270–410 MPa and an elongation exceeding 27 percent, with good plasticity, high toughness, and insensitivity to notches. Its density is approximately 4.51 g/cm³, which is only about 60% that of stainless steel. Its outstanding advantages include excellent corrosion resistance and relatively low cost, making it suitable for chemical piping, marine fasteners, and general corrosion-resistant applications. The surface naturally forms a dense oxide film, maintaining stability in oxidizing, neutral, and weakly reducing media.
2) 6AL4V Titanium Alloy (Ti-6Al-4V / Gr5) :
This is the most widely used titanium alloy grade, accounting for approximately 70% of total titanium alloy consumption. Its tensile strength can reach 900–1,100 MPa or higher, approaching that of Grade 10.9 carbon steel bolts, while maintaining good toughness. It exhibits outstanding high-temperature performance and can be used continuously at temperatures up to 600°C; it is commonly used in high-end applications such as aircraft engines and fracture fixation screws. It should be noted that TC4 cannot be formed by cold rolling; it can only be formed by hot rolling, and the maximum usable dimension is limited to approximately 19 mm.
3) β-titanium alloys (e.g., Ti-15-3-3-3):
With a longitudinal elastic modulus of approximately 90 GPa, these alloys combine high strength with excellent fatigue resistance, making them suitable for applications with strict requirements for fatigue life and cleanroom environments, such as robotic joints and semiconductor equipment.
