The technical requirements for rods for Swiss-type lathes mainly include size, shape, surface quality, hardness and material properties, as follows:
1. Size and shape requirements
(1) Diameter and length.
Diameter: The diameter of the rod needs to be selected according to the machine tool specifications. The diameter range is usually 1~38mm (such as Japanese Citizen brand machine tools can be processed to 38mm). The smaller the diameter (such as 1~3mm), the shorter the rod length needs to be (about 1000~2000mm). When the diameter is ≥3mm, the length can be extended to 2500~3200mm.
Length: It must meet the sum of the spindle clamping length and the guide sleeve support distance.
If the total length of the raw material is too short, it may cause the accumulation of waste materials and increase costs.
(2) Straightness and Tolerance.
Straightness: Bar straightness must be controlled below 0.35mm/m (some high-precision machine tools require ≤0.3mm/m). The smaller the diameter, the stricter the straightness requirement (for example, 1-3mm bars require ≤0.35mm/m).
Tolerance: Diameter tolerance must be ≤0.02mm (some high-precision machine tools require ≤0.01mm).
The smaller the tolerance, the higher the processing stability.
2. Material property requirements
(1) Hardness. The hardness must be controlled between HRC26-30. Too high or too low may cause processing deformation or tool wear.
(2) Surface quality.
Surface finish: Ra≤0.8μm, without pitting, bumps, scratches, rust and other defects.
End treatment: Both ends need to be chamfered to reduce guide interference, and the surface must be clean and free of attachments.
3. Special Material Requirements
Material Selection: Common materials include titanium alloy, copper, and aluminum alloy. Corrosion-resistant or high-strength materials should be selected based on processing requirements.
Non-Standard Shapes: Custom shapes such as square or hexagonal materials and hollow materials can be made based on product requirements. However, internal blockage must be avoided to prevent cutting oil leakage.
