Technology media MacRumors published a blog post on July 15th, reporting that in the latest investment brief, analyst Jeff Pu believes that Apple's thinnest iPhone 17 Air will adopt titanium alloy frames, while the other three iPhone 17 series models will adopt aluminum alloy frames.
In the newly released analysis report, analysts pointed out that the iPhone 17 Air will be the only model in the entire series that adopts titanium alloy frames, while the other three models - iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max - will all use aluminum alloy frames. This information indicates that Apple has made different adjustments to the material selection of the new phone compared to the previous generation.
Titanium alloys feature high strength, high hardness, excellent toughness and elasticity. They outperform aluminum alloys in tensile strength, impact resistance and elongation. Therefore, titanium alloy is considered more suitable for supporting the thin and light structural design of mobile phones.
This also explains why Apple chose to use this material on the iPhone 17 Air. It is worth noting that since the iPhone X was released in 2017, Apple has adopted stainless steel or titanium alloy frames in each generation of its high-end Pro series products. The return of the Pro series to use aluminum alloy frames this time indicates a significant change in Apple's material strategy for high-end mobile phones.
The following are Pu Deyu's predictions:

The iPhone 17 will adopt an aluminum alloy frame, the iPhone 17 Air will adopt a titanium alloy frame, and the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will adopt an aluminum alloy frame. The material usage of the iPhone 16 series is as follows: The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus adopt aluminum alloy frames, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max adopt titanium alloy frames.
