what is Grinding finish titanium alloy plates Ti6Al4V?
Grinding finish titanium alloy plates Ti6Al4V are high-quality titanium sheets produced by using rolled titanium or titanium alloy sheets as raw material and subjecting them to surface treatment on a continuous-feed wide-belt sanding machine to achieve a uniform, fine linear texture and a specific surface roughness. It is a titanium or titanium alloy sheet that has undergone surface treatment processes such as mechanical grinding and polishing to achieve a flat, smooth surface with low roughness (typically Ra ≤ 0.8 μm; high-precision versions can achieve a mirror-like finish).
Unlike common acid-etched surfaces (which are dark gray with a slightly rough texture) or sandblasted surfaces (which have a uniform, matte, pitted finish), grinded titanium sheets undergo mechanical grinding to actively remove scale, microcracks, and localized defects from the sheet's surface. This process not only enhances the appearance but also restores the sheet's dimensional accuracy and internal properties. Studies have shown that through two rounds of sanding followed by fine polishing, the surface roughness (Ra) of sanded surfaces can be consistently maintained below 1.6 μm, far surpassing that of ordinary pickled or sandblasted surfaces.
The Four Key Features
1. Surface Condition: Free of scale and scratches, with a metallic luster; surface roughness is significantly lower than that of ordinary hot-rolled or cold-rolled titanium sheets.
2. "Cold Cutting" Technology Guarantee: Titanium has poor thermal conductivity, and temperatures rise very easily during processing, leading to surface oxidation, discoloration, or work hardening. During the sanding process, we use cold-cutting coated sanding belts specifically designed for titanium alloys, combined with a wet grinding process (cooled by cutting fluid), to effectively control temperature rise and prevent thermal damage. This ensures that the sanded surface is not only aesthetically pleasing but also preserves the original microstructure and properties of the titanium material.
3. Processing Method: Through a two-stage sanding process using sanding belts of progressively finer grits, the first stage employs a coarse sanding belt (large grit) for intensive grinding to quickly correct sheet thickness tolerances and remove deep-seated oxide scale. This is followed by a second stage using a fine sanding belt (small grit) for precise sanding to eliminate coarse grinding marks and achieve a uniform surface texture. Finally, the surface is treated with a high-fineness polishing compound to remove surface defects and contaminants.
4. Material Basis: The base material is typically industrial-grade pure titanium (such as Gr1, Gr2) or titanium alloys (such as GR5), retaining titanium's inherent properties of corrosion resistance, high strength, and low density.
Materials and Compliance Standards
We offer a full range of sanded titanium and titanium alloy sheets. Common grades include:
1. Pure Titanium: Gr.1, Gr.2, Gr.4-suitable for chemical and marine engineering applications requiring high ductility and excellent corrosion resistance.
2. Titanium Alloys: Gr.5 (Ti-6Al-4V)-suitable for aerospace, medical, and high-end sports equipment applications requiring high strength and lightweight materials.
3. Others: Gr.7, Gr.9, Gr.12, and other corrosion-resistant or medium-strength alloys.
We strictly adhere to advanced international standards such as ASTM B265 for production and testing. For special specifications (such as extra-long or extra-wide sheets) or specific applications (such as materials for watch cases and bands), we can also provide customized production in accordance with industry standards such as YS/T 580.
Main Uses
- Precision Manufacturing: Used for semiconductor sputtering targets, precision molds, and optical instrument components, where surfaces must be free of impurities.
- Medical and Food: Due to its dense, easy-to-clean surface and good biocompatibility, it is commonly used for medical device housings and contact surfaces in food processing equipment.
- High-End Decorative and Chemical Applications: Used in aerospace and marine components, electroplating fixtures, and corrosion-resistant containers to reduce fluid resistance and enhance resistance to microbial adhesion.
