Definition of Pure Grade 2 titanium seamless pipe
Pure Grade 2 titanium seamless pipe is a hollow pipe that produced from unalloyed titanium, Grade 2, also known as UNS R50400, its excellent advantages of light weight, corrosion resistance, good formability and weldability.
Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 are all industrial pure titanium. They have high mechanical properties, excellent stamping performance, and can be welded in various forms.
The strength of the welded joint can reach 90% of the strength of the base metal, and they also have good machinability. Titanium tubes have high corrosion resistance to chlorides, sulfides and ammonia. The corrosion resistance of titanium in seawater is higher than that of aluminum alloys, stainless steel and nickel-based alloys. Titanium also has strong resistance to water impact.
In the mid-1960s, titanium and its alloys had already been applied in general industry, being used to make electrodes for the electrolytic industry, condensers for power stations, heaters for oil refining and seawater desalination, as well as environmental pollution control devices, etc. Titanium and its alloys have become a kind of corrosion-resistant structural material. In addition, it is also used in the production of hydrogen storage materials and shape memory alloys, etc.
Features of Pure Grade 2 titanium seamless pipe
Compared with other metallic materials, titanium alloys have the following advantages :
- High specific strength (tensile strength/density) (see the figure), with tensile strength reaching 100 to 140kgf/mm ², while the density is only 60% of that of steel.
- It has good medium-temperature strength, with a service temperature several hundred degrees higher than that of aluminum alloy. It can still maintain the required strength at medium temperatures and can work for a long time at temperatures ranging from 450 to 500 degrees Celsius.
- It has good corrosion resistance. A uniform and dense oxide film immediately forms on the surface of titanium in the atmosphere, which has the ability to resist erosion by various media. Titanium generally has good corrosion resistance in oxidizing and neutral media, and its corrosion resistance is even more outstanding in seawater, wet chlorine gas and chloride solutions.
- However, in reducing media such as hydrochloric acid and other solutions, titanium has relatively poor corrosion resistance. Titanium alloys with excellent low-temperature performance and extremely low interstitial elements, such as TA7, can still maintain a certain degree of plasticity at -253℃.
- Low elastic modulus, small thermal conductivity, and no ferromagnetism.
Heat treatment of Pure Grade 2 titanium seamless pipe
Common heat treatment methods include annealing, solution treatment and aging treatment.
1) Annealing is carried out to eliminate internal stress, enhance plasticity and microstructure stability, and thereby achieve better comprehensive performance. Generally, the annealing temperature for α alloys and (α+β) alloys is selected at 120 to 200 degrees Celsius below the (α+β) - →β phase transition point.
2) Solution treatment and aging treatment involve rapid cooling in the high-temperature zone to obtain martensite α 'phase and metastable β phase, and then holding in the medium-temperature zone to decompose these metastable phases, resulting in fine and dispersed second-phase particles such as α phase or compounds, thereby achieving the purpose of strengthening the alloy. Usually (alpha + beta) alloy quenching in alpha + beta) -- - > beta phase transition point below 40 ~ 100 ℃, metastable beta alloy quenching in alpha + beta) -- - > beta phase transition point above 40 ~ 80 ℃.
3) The aging treatment temperature is generally 450 to 550 degrees Celsius. In addition, to meet the special requirements of workpieces, industry also adopts metal heat treatment processes such as double annealing, isothermal annealing, β heat treatment, and deformation heat treatment.
